Cam synchronizer squeak? 01 4.0

'01 4.0 ranger. auto, 4wd. 70k miles

I have a squeak coming from the back of the engine, it goes with the engine speed. I already took the belt off just to make sure its nothing up front.
So far all of my searching is pointing to a cps synchronizer, but all the posts I see are about the ohv 4.0, sohc. Does the sohc get this problem as well?

Ok can anybody recommend a forum thats more about repairing rangers than modding them?

Yes, the Ford Camshaft Synchronizer on the 3.0l was an issue, and squeaking was the first and sometimes only warning.
If it seizes up the oil pump can stop and that would be a bad thing.

However I don't see a parts listing for a 2001 4.0l Camshaft Synchronizer, 1999 and 2000 are listed.
So not sure if you have this or something else in that hole????
If you have one then I would swap it out.
