I am getting a 94 3.0 to replace the one thats dieing under my hood. I ideally wanted a 98 or 2000 up 3.0 but I'm not paying that kind of cash. I am aware that that the slightly domed pistons and different combustion chamber size and shape increase the power in the newer engine's.

I am going to install the composite upper intake as well and my question is would i benefit at ALL from using a 98 or 2000-2001 cam in my 94? I say these years since they are the years with the highest out put that i have seen.

I believe there is only one roller cam profile for the 3.0L

if im not mistake its the plenum and combustion chamber differences that make up the power differences, the pistons and everything else is the exact same from what i can tell.

valves were changed in the second half of 99 also to increase power.

damn, the 2000s have 30 more ft lbs of torque, they get it just from that? i thought hey had different rockers.

Engine management was another factor in hp ratings.

There was like 8 different cams.. I was thinking about getting a pair of 99-03 methanol heads for the 2cc reduction in the combustion chamber size and a 98 or 2000-2001 cam along with the composite upper intake. I am assuming that the stock 94 computer should be able to compensate for the increased air flow. Here I think that this link should be important reading material. I found tons of information in here that i never knew before.

i wouldnt go out of my way to find the flex fuel heads simply for the smaller chambers. you could deck non-flex heads and achieve the same (ore more) effect.

the heads, valves, intake, cam, exhaust manifolds, engine management, and fuel delivery system (for flex fuel engines) are all contributing factors to the 2000-era 3.0's making more power than other years.

nothing personal but i think you can port an aluminum intake and get more or better power than just slapping on the factory plastic, plus you cant port it very far if at all.

I have a pull-a-part really close to me with many Taurus's to choose from. I can get a cam shaft for 15 bucks, and the heads for like 30 each. My exhaust manifolds are coated inside and out with hi quality thermal barrier and I got a 03 upper intake.

I know im not going to get exactly what the 2000 era motors had for power, but with the 2000's head improvments, the cam and the intake i am shure i would have to gain something. If i could get a few more hp and tq out of it would make it all worth wild for me.

well since you have it all apart might as well port everything and get some roller rockers, 1.6 lift should do nicely.

You'll see minimal gains with roller rockers when you use the factory ratio. Step up to 1.7:1 roller rockers for increased lift.

Later down the road??? I got me a complete set at a local swap meet for a meer 100.00 clams... They are for a 5.0 and the trick is just the studs. The 3.0 uses 8mm Studds.
If You are going to do the heads might as well bolt 'em on.
Good luck.

so whats all involved with changing out the rockers with ones from a 5.0 and what kind of increase if at all are you getting
