Cam Follower Retainer Clip?

Did the '92 2.3l have a retaining clip on the Cam Followers? i see a groove on top of the followers on the valve spring side, but there arent any clips... does the pressure on the followers from the cam keep these in place? or does there need to be a spring or somthing to hold them in?
