2005 Ford F150 with the 5.4L with 98,000 miles on it

What to look for? any special considerations on the 5.4? is this the engine that you can't remove the spark plugs from it?

The truck is in decent shape, a few dings and dents in the tailgate, a scratch on the side, a tear in the driver seat. the Reese hitch is a little rusty, looks like the previous owner used it for boat hauling. other than that, looks to be reasonably well cared for. Asking price is $7500 at a mom and pop used car lot.

Checking on this for a buddy.

Thanks!

AJ

Yes this is the engine with the breaking spark plugs and cam phasers that break. On top of the $100 a piece coils that fail all the time.

I would never own one, but as a technician I love em...... Pays the bills.

If you are still interested in it remove the oil cap and shine a light down the hole if you see any signs of neglect pass on it or be prepared to spend lots of in repairs. 5w20 synthetic is a MUST. I have pictures of a WELL maintained 5.4L torn apart to replace broken phasers, guy changes his oil every 5k using synthetic and still had problems.

I have done lots of broken spark plugs, coils, cam phasers, timing chains, head gaskets.

I am bypassing the 3V because of the phasers. Waiting for the 5.0's to depreciate to my level and to see how they hold up... the 3V phasers did well for awhile too.
