Caliper Slider Pin lube, Ford calls for....

Did some 'net searching and found that FORD calls for: "Silicone Brake Caliper Grease & Dielectric, Compound XG-6.... ESE-M1C171-A"

to be used for the lube on the the Ranger Brake Caliper and Slider Pins.

My searching led me to a web-site.. "bobistheoilguy.com" who posts alot of "tech stuff" on lubricants. I found a cross reference to what Ford calls for and it lists ALOT of manufactures of like ESE-M1C171-A that Ford calls out.

I've ALWAYS just used regular ol' DISC brake lube. Current stuff is....CRC Synthetic Brake & Caliper Grease.

It's black colored (moly). Haven't had any problems....that I know of BUT.....

This CRC stuff is definitely NOT what Ford calls out.

What are others using? And if it's NOT what Ford calls out... why?

I just use wheel bearing grease on those pins, but if the brakes get real hot that can liquify enough to run out, whereas the stuff Ford specs should not. I have not had a problem with it.

I use the grease that comes with the kit that come with the pads. I use Akebono brake pads and the grease is the thick black moly grease. I am sure it is the high temperature stuff.

I have used both the CRC black goo and some other clear blue grease that I think came from NAPA (?) I believe Versa-chem makes that one. I think I like the CRC stuff better, the blue stuff almost seems like it separates and needs to be stirred up.

I got VersaChem Caliper Grease, in an 8 OZ plastic jug with a brush in the lid, likely at one of the auto parts stores or possibly Wmart. A virtual lifetime supply I suppose but it was rather cheap before the world turned upside down. You might still find it not too bad.

Mine was giving me a headache before I learned the value of this stuff, and was limited to driving 55 most of the time or it would make horrible sounds.
Soon as I got this and looked at the label I brushed everthing in there that would be "metal-to-metal"
Dayum what a difference that made!
I must have drove 50 miles just enjoying the ride

usually some type of silicone based lube.
in the past I've used whatever was handy, for the last 35 years.
