I just bought a 1992 Ranger 4x4 4.0.....it idles really high and is sporadic like during shifting into drive or reverse it will either rev or reduce engine rpms...????????

Hello and welcome to the TRS.

So I find no vac leaks, cleaned everything still no positive results. When I first start the engine it will idle high then go down but still above normal idle when I put it into reverse it hesitates as it revs then it goes into reverse when I shifted into drive it will rev and then go into gear normally. When I turn the air conditioner on the engine revs also when I first take off in drive it holds first gear for a really long time it seems that after that it ships normally. Also the four-wheel drive is not working like it won't turn on.
