Title summs up what im trying to find out. I want to put a Cold Air intake on my 2001 4.0 sohc, however im trying to find out which brand is best, or gives the best performance increase. I live in so cal, so the emmision control laws and etc blow.

Or would i just be better off putting a K&N intake on it, then some china made CAI thats carbs certified?

Thanks in advance for your time

The best cold air intake was the one that came from the factory. Putting the after market bigger piped one isnt going to make the engine suck more air then it could physically do with the factory one.

There have been tons of descutions about this and in the end all that can be said id its your vehicle, do what you want to it, you ask for peoples options, your going to get alot of them and they may not be what you are looking for.

Sorry im a bit of a newbie to my ranger, so the factory intake on my truck is already cold air? I wasnt aware but thank you.

This exactly what i wanted however, was opinions on the matter, i found a couple threads about intakes however i wanted to narrow it down to CARB certified and etc

If you do a search, you'll see its true. The factory airbox pulls cold air from the grill. Not from inside the engine bay, or below the motor where you can get water in it.

cool man, thats sweet, so i guess ill be sticking with the stock intake, from a couple other threads i found, many people have the same idea that aftermarket intakes outside of direct injection, dont do anything.

thanks a lot for the help

you want cold air? go to your local store and buy some dry ice. put it in the bottom of your air box.

i opened up my air filter box and tossed some dry ice into my air box, my car made a weird sound when i reved it really high, normal i assume?

not sure, not sure how much to put in. its an old race trick for getting a few extras in a class that does not allow mods.
