CAI and Egr. What’s the point?

Yeah, I’ve been told that throttle body spacers are unnecessary bloat for an injected engine, but provide a huge improvement for a carbureted engine.

A big question that has been bothering me is what if you made a real cold air intake with a wide scoop for more air to be forced into the engine at high speeds.
I was thinking of taking dryer vent hose and running it from the filter box down to the open part of the bumper and then cutting the top off a 5quart oil jug as a scoop. Has anybody else tried this?

Edit: obviously if it worked I would make it more permanent and more aesthetically appealing.

Cold air, cool points, AND functionality with this one.

There was a guy on another Ranger forum back in the day that did a similar setup, taking his intake air from someplace down by the front valance. He ran through a deep puddle and hydrolocked his engine.

Really low air intake ducts are fine for brake cooling or something like that, but I wouldn't put engine intake air ducts any lower than the front bumper. It's not super hard to run something from the grill over to the airbox. Or, you could put some sort of scoop or opening from the fender into the airbox.

The science behind EGR. This is an entertaining and educational video.

The biggest benefit with that intake is less dust ingestion when in a convoy out on the trail. If it is sealed up pretty well, it will prevent water ingestion as well. Though, if the electronics and vents for the transmission and axle aren't sealed up or raised, fording depth doesn't change much.

It still looks cool and does provide a benefit, unlike those "cold air intake" kits the automotive market usually sells.
