Shopping for a new-to-me Ranger, but I get different answers on this:

I know the Ranger comes in two cab lengths, but is the longer one only called "Super Cab"? I see "Extended Cab" in a lot of ads and don't know if this is just a generic term or another style.

Also, are all the super cabs 4-door, or are some 2-door? I have only seen 4-door.

Thanks!

Supercab is Ford's official name for the extended cab. so really, the two terms can be used interchangeably.

2 door vs 4 door, all 98 and newer Supercabs had the option of 4 doors, I don't think I have seen many 98 + without that option.

All 97 and older Supercab are 2 door.

Also, for 98 +, the single cab is 3 inches longer than previous years. Hope this helps!

AJ nailed it. Just wanted to add that I've had 2 98+ rangers with 2 door extended cabs. Both were 2wd, 3.0L automatic, with regular bed. One was my dad's 2001 XLT (IIRC) that he traded, and the other is a 2000 model fleet truck that was given to us by another family member. Seen several others while I was out and about.

Was this setup more common in the 2WD, 3.0 models?

The doors are part of the trim package right? just like power windows ect. I have a 99' Xlt Xcab 3.0 5spd 4x4 and it only has 2 doors sadly. Its also the stepside.

I just saw an '04 XLT with rear doors that was the first one I'd seen without jump seats. Not that this is a big loss, but were the XLTs sold without the jump seats, or would those have been removed?

So much trim line mumbo-jumbo to sort out sometimes.

I think there are/were three cab lengths. Two standard cabs and the super. I think it was in 98 that the single grew three inches.

This whole Supercab and jump seat issue is confusing and inconsistent. I have NEVER seen a 4-cylinder truck with a 4-door cab; has anyone else? However, I have seen both XL and XLT trim trucks with and without rear jump seats. At one time I thought only the most base model XLs didn't have rear jump seats (that's after I was shocked by the first truck I ever saw without the seats - until then I thought all Supercabs had jump seats!).

I never was clear where the extra 3 inches came from... Did they shorten the bed a bit? I don't think they changed the wheelbase.

Supper Cab

I have a 88 Supper Cab with swing out side glass, had "jump seats" in the back but I tossed them for more storage room and saved close to 50 lbs.

Supper cab, huh? Sounds delicious.

3 inches were added in the cab, between the middle and rear cab mounts IIRC. They did extend the wheel base to accommodate it.
