First i'd like to say hello to everyone. I am a newb so hopefully I am posting in the right part of the forum haha. I have a 2000 ford ranger standard cab pickup and whenever I drive over bumpy roads I can hear a noise that sounds like metal striking metal coming from behind the passenger seat.

According to the guy I bought it from he said the truck was in an accident and was driven into a ditch. The truck was repaired but rather poorly. Like somebody mickey moused it together in their own garage. Anyways I know the noise is coming from the passenger side because I can actually pick up on the cab and it feels a little loose.
I ended up removing the tire jack bracket behind the passenger seat and pulled the vinyl flooring back a little. I then saw the bolt that holds the cab down. But when I attempted to tighten the bolt with a ratchet it would not budge. I didnt want to force it and break something. Ive heard ford uses some kind of thread locker to prevent the bolts from backing out? I had a look under the truck and the bushings didnt appear worn from what I could see. So im not sure if they are just loose or something is bent.
Also, would worn/loose cab bushings cause vibration in the interior when idling? Thanks for your time.

The bushings can and do get soft with age. They can allow impact between cab and frame if too soft. Check the underside of the cab for abnormally smooth or shiny spots where it is close to the frame. If bushings are worn, they can allow water into the bolt thread area of the bushing washer.
Bolts should have 75ft-lb torque according to ford (less than lug nut torque).

Interior rattling / vibration is not likely to be a result of bad bushings. Polyurethane bushings are available for most Rangers and are good replacements for stock.

Thanks for the reply srteach. Any idea where I can find cab bushings for a 2000 ford ranger standard cab? I had a look on ebay and did find a set of Polyurethane bushings but they only went up to 97. Would they work for a 00 ranger to? Googled them but still no luck and I really do not want to buy from the stealer.

Oh yeah, what would cause my interior to vibrate at idle? My friend told me its possibly a bad u-joint or even a motor mount? Sorry if im asking too many questions. But this is really bugging me. Especially when I have stuff in the cupholders like change or my phone. Feels like my truck has a built in massager lol.

try looking at www.summitracing.com and also at www.lmctruck.com and you should find what you need for bushings. i also use the lmc catalog to see what parts will cross over from year to year. great resource.
don't know about the vibrations in your cab. as you know it was wrecked, it might pay to take it to a shop that does frame alignment and see if yours is correct. if it isn't it may lead to early wear of various bushings, mounts, etc. just my $.02
