ok when i bought my ranger when i opened my door(driver side) the light never came on...so when you open the passenger door it works.... ok my problem is that when my passenger door is opened and closed the DOOR ADJAR light comes on and the light stays for about 5 minutes and finally goes off. it never use to do that. ive check all the fuses and unpluged the battery...nothing has worked. is there a problem with the door mechinism?

open both doors. spray excessive amounts of your favorite spray lube on both door latches. open and close doors several times. enjoy proper dome light/door dinger/door ajar light operation :icon_thumby:

I tried this ... RATS!!! the chime stays on .... mine seems to be related to the drivers side door, outside handle DSD-OH - with the truck locked, if I pull up on the DSD-OH the interior light comes on, and the $%&# chime comes on. Both light and chime stay on for a while - is it supposed to work this way? It's a 95, my college DD's vehicle, and we have only had it for 8 months or so. Thanks!

the switch that operates the lights and chime is inside the door, attached to the pushrod mechanism. once its closed (as in, pull the door handle up), its sticking there until the return spring finally pops it back. usually hosing down then inside of the latch with lube is enough to free it up...but if that didnt work, you should pull the door panel off and replace the switch.

Thanks Wicked_Sludge, I'm guessing removing the switch would not be a viable option - it would probably keep the interior light(s) from working at all, or at least when you open the drivers side door, right? Once the interior door panel is off, is the switch relatively easy to remove & replace or is it a PITA? Thanks again!

Since my last post, I managed to pull the door panel ... so my next question is: is that switch in the vicinity of the outside door handle, or near the latch (where the door grabs the door post)?? While I'm not certain, all the spray lubrication (silicone) SEEMS to have shortened the time that the chime stays on, YAY!!!

its near the door latch itself. sounds like you had some partial success with the spray lube, you probably just didnt get enough in there.

you could simply unplug the switch if you wanted, this would keep the lights and buzzer from annoying you until you can afford/have the time to replace the switch.
