C6 tranny on a 351

I'm wanting to put a c6 on my 351ci does anyone know if it will bolt up or do I need to get an adaptor or bell housing of a c4. the c6 is coming off of my 429ci.

Sorry, won't fit. The c-6 has an integral bellhousing and you need one with a small-block pattern for 351 windsor and cleveland, not sure about 351M.

Sorry, there are no [edit; removable] bellhousings on the c-6.

I've been thinking about a similar build. I've heard that the 351m/400 bolt pattern is the same as the 429/460. I have not confirmed this.

If you are dead balls set on using that particular transmission buy a bolt on bellhousing for a C6 in a small block pattern. You have the cut the cast bellhousing off the transmission and bolt the now one on through the pump. You'll shell out about $350 for one and most are SFI approved scatter shields. Aside from that you need a different transmission.

I may have to retract that statement for the C6. It's made for just about everything except the C6. http://www.campbellenterprises.com/automatic-transmission-parts/jw-performance-transmissions/ultra-bell-bellhousing.htm Maybe call JW and see if they know of or maybe make one. I'm very familiar with doing this on tubro 400, see a lot of them broken in race cars. I could have sworn at one time made the same for a C6 as well.

C6 tranny on 351

If you have a small block C6, it will fit the 351c/w. It will also fit 302/289's as well as other small blocks. If the tranny came from a 351w, it will only fit big blocks such as 400, 429, 460. I beleive the 390 also uses the big block housing. As the C6 does not have a removable bellhousing, you will not be able to swap it from a c4. Small Block C6's are becoming less common to find as they are a popular trans, but there are other alternatives out there that are just as good.

ha thats funny i just finished pulling a c6 out of my 79 bronco with a 351m and a np205 t case i"m gonna build the 351m to a 400 and stuff it in my explorer with the full width axles under it.

so is a C6 a post op or a pre op tranny?


small block E4OD is also not that common but any big bronco built 91 or newer with an automatic is sure to have one if it's still stock. a TCM is not that much and it is not that difficult to wire an E4OD. The TCM wants the water temp and throttle position and a few other sensors that are not that expensive. Then you get an OD with full lock up capabilities.

a built AOD is another option but not as strong as an E4OD. Despite popular opinion... the E4OD is not a weak transmission..... it's the programming that sucks, an after market TCM and triple disk torque converter takes care of that.
