Hey all, I'm just now coming back to the dark side after a few years playing with Chevy's. My first truck was an 88 Ranger that I bought 5 years ago.. transmission died and it went to the shredder sadly because I wasn't as knowledgeable as I am now..
Anyways I've been on the hunt for a B2 or Ranger and settled on finding one with a C5 to make things simple. I daily drive a Honda Fit, this will be more of a spare to go into the mountains and enjoy old memories
I found an 84 B2 locally that's pretty clean, though I haven't looked at it. The C5 is not shifting up automatically, but will shift manually. Says he replaced the vacuum modulator but it didn't fix it. He has not checked vacuum on the line, so that's one thing I will check with a gauge. Truck is otherwise clean.
Now.. my intention is a small block swap down the line. So if the trans needs to be overhauled I think my intention is to find a C4 and have the C5 tail shaft swapped onto it. I'm going to pull the trans myself to save some money.
Does this sound like a good plan? Any other things to look for as far as the C5 not shifting? I'd love to not have to have the trans rebuilt right out the gate but I will if I have to if the truck is clean...
