I have a C5 transmission out of a 85 bronco II... I was converting it to a C4/C5 hybrid.. valvebody etc... to use in a V8 swap... I was just curious what the spline count is so that I can get the correct torque converter. Does anyone know the spline count or at least a good way to count it? I was thinking about putting a light coating of grease on the shaft and wrapping a peice of clean paper around it and then counting the marks left over??

If I remember correctly the C-4 should be 28.

Ok. 28 spline is probably right.... i wish there were an easy way to count or know for sure 100% lol.

26 spline. After 70 the C4/C5 all used 26 spline inputs. The earlier C4s used 24 spline. The drums and valvebody are different in those models and won't interchange with the newer ones.

Take Matts word for it.....He's been into way more than me as far as trans go.
It's been 2 years since I put mine together.............and Im getting old and forget ful...lol.

I still would take a pick or something and carefully count your splines just to be sure. Just carefully mark one of the valleys and take a pick and go around and count them. Had to do it for many transmissions that had different spline counts.
