This may seem like a stupid question but I am puzzled..I connected my shifter linkage on the C4 transmission last week end. I am using a Locker floor mount. In park the shifter arm on the transmission seems to have a spring return, ie if the shifter arm is disconnected from the shift lever and pushed all the way into park it will not stay there, it seems to want to flip to reverse, is this "normal" or correct? The engine dosen't start yet (still have some wiring and other hooking up to do)

i think is should stay in park, try holding it in park and turning the yoke and see if the parking paw is in postion, it might not be in the engaged and the spring tension might just be pushing it back out

thank you

Thank you, I really have run into some strange stuff with this project and I am trying to learn more about cars etc and I really am doing that:icon_twisted:

Sounds like the park pawl is pushing it back out of park. Just like goodoleboy said hold it into park and try spining thedriveshaft and see if it lock into park. The only other thing it could be is the shift shaft arm could be the wrong one and you are actully putting the trans into just below 1st and its clicking back into 1st. Hope this helps.

Mike, thank you very much, that did the trick, I had to jackl up the rear end because the drive shaft etc was already hooked up and I had to play with it a touch to get it to work but in finally locked in place and now all the gears catch...Thank you again!
