C4 Issue need help

i finally finished my 351 swap and im running a c4 out of a 70' maverick. reverse engages but barely crawls backwards and there is a delay in the shift from 2nd - 3rd gear. i dont know much about these transmissions. i can deal with the delayed shift but i NEED reverse.
if anyone has any reccomendations it would be greatly appreciated. maybe it just needs a band tightened?

The direct clutch is burnt/worn. Direct applies in reverse and 3rd gears.

That would be my guess well, direct clutch. I don't think a band adjustment would cure your problem reguardless. I would say you are going to have to pull it and get it rebuilt.
