c4 2wd to 4wd

Hey i have a 1979 c4 2wd trans and i need a 4wd trans what would be the easiest cheapest way to go about doing this. I also am going to need a tranfercase. will the new process 205 from my 79 bronco work? all insight on this is really appretiated.

There are guys who have put NP205s in Rangers. It's usually done as part of a V8 swap. Posting that particular question in the 4x4 section will probably gain more insight into that issue.

As for the trans.... To convert a 2wd to a 4wd you need an extension housing to bolt the case to, and a different (longer) output shaft. That kinda requires complete tear down and rebuild of the trans. A lot of times it's almost easier to just find a 4wd trans.

Actually, the output shaft of a 4wd is shorter than the 2wd, as the tailshaft housing of the 2wd trans is replaced with a shorter adapter housing that the tcase bolts to...

The np 205 will not bolt to the C4, wrong spline count no matter which 205 you have.
