I have a 95 ranger, 4.0 ,5 spd ,4x4. I bought conversion kit and new manual locking hubs. the conversion kit did not contain the splined washer or the c clip that goes on after the nut assembly on the axle. the dealer told me these were going to be around a hundred dollars. that cannot be right can it? I called jeffs bronco graveyard and they told me not to use the washer or the clips. Any help would be appreciated.

Any junkyard will probably give them to you free...

Wat happened to the ones that were on there before you did the manual swap?

they were missing when I bought it , along with all the other pieces. does anyone know if a ttb44 clips and washers will work? I had one given to me complete ,still on half frame steering links springs and all. wondering what to do with it. the hubs were to big I couldnt use them .

You can try test fitting them. If they don't work, try the junkyard. These parts seldom show more wear than a bit of polish. No need to spend $100 gold plating them.

Though it's possible Dorman might sell these for significantly less. They do sell the actual spindle nuts.

The Dana 44 stub shafts are different....so they probably wont fit. :icon_thumby:

I called every bone yard around no one has them. I called and talked to a mechanic at ford dealer, I told him what bronco graveyard said about not using them and he said 'Ive done business with jeffs for 20 yrs he knows what he's talking about , if he told you not to use them dont worry about it. has anyone here have any experince with them. trs has been invaluable to me over the years thanks everyone.

BAD advice. That clip holds the axleshaft in the hub. It can work its way out with large flex or even just by turning the steering wheel to the stop.

Go to a self service yard. A full service one won't want to dig the right one out of the big pile of misc parts they have.

Yeah, go to a you-pull-it. Anything with a dana 35 will work, Ranger, Explorer, BII, Navajo....

That c-clip, if it's on the drivers side, there is little reason to worry about replacing it as that shaft doesn't move when the suspension cycles. The passenger side though is a different story. You NEED that one.

He means the little c-clip that goes on the very outer end of the axle shaft.

I agree, go to a You-Pull-It yard with a flathead screwdriver and a pair of needle-nose pliers. I really doubt they'd charge you.

Been there, had to go back and get a little c-clip for my axle. They said as long as I found an already butchered axle I could have whatever clips I want.

.

I understand that. Note where I said drivers side and passenger side. The driver side one is not necessary. The axle doesn't move on the drive side... on the passenger side though, through movement of the suspension, the axle gets longer and shorter and the clip and washer is needed. Also... there is no clip on the inside for the driver side axle.... reaffirming I knew what I was talking about and what his original question was.

Actually that's not true either. If the c-clip & washer is missing (even on the driverside), the rear spindle seal will not be seated properly.

I agree with you guys . I think I need it too. I would just worry about it all the time if I dont go find them. I dont wheel to hard most of the time but when I do I dont want to invite trouble. thanks for the fast response everyone, if It gets me through till I do that dana 44 knuckle conversion Ill be happy.:icon_thumby: or should I use the whole ttb44?:icon_confused:

im pretty sure the 35 ans 44 spindle nuts are the same cause i used them to do the 35/44 knuckle swapthey threaded fine with the lock washer
