Without searching, I thought the 2.9 and 4.0 were compatible, not the 2.8. Also, the 4.0 a4ld doesn't have a removable bell, or am I senile. So yeah, searching first is always good.

The bellhousing is removable but it is part of the transmission housing the front pump.
