C-3 Question

Is a C3 Transmission on a 83 Ranger 2.8 V6 the same for 2wd as 4x4? I'm just trying to replace a transmission that is going out, I realize that the drive equipment for the 4x4 will be different, but is the base trans the same? Or what is different?
