Hello all.

I changed my tranny fluid yesterday and the transfer case fluid - to my surprise there is no harmonic damper on the transfer case! :shok: Apparently it's been gone for quite a while as the holes are filled with dried mud. Is this an issue? I mean nothing drives it - what is it there for? Do I need to get one?

Thanks in advance for any help. I love this forum! I have already got a ton of great information here.

My best guess is Ford put it there to quell some sort of barely-audible noise or vibration. It's 5 lbs (if I recall correct) of dead weight that someone thought (correctly) wouldn't hurt any thing to lose (or were simply too lazy to put it back on after changing the t-case oil).

I keep mine around to throw at people who annoy me.

Not sure if that comment is helpful, or constructive, but it is at least relevant.

Good to hear!

Thank you both for the replies.
