I'm sure I would have more questions down the road, but i have accouple to start with.

I am working on a 4x4 swap on my 04 trac, using a bII's manual bw1350

Is it possible to run it without a front driveshaft for awhile? Being that its a slip yoke, would the tc fluid leak out?. I have an extra driveshaft, could I just pop the u-joint and ziptie the end of the driveshaft in?

I am wondering, cause I dont have a front diff yet, but i was hoping to go ahead and get the tranny/tc hooked up. Also after getting the front diff installed, I have to shorten the driveshaft anyway, so i would have to drive it to a shop.

Also, near the end of the rear flange is a good size hole. I believe it was for a speed sensor. I'll have to get pics of it. Is there a way to seal off this hole? Or is it ok to run open?

Thanks for any input/advice

the front will. E fine without a driveshaft.

The hole you are talking about is the speed sensor. Get yourself a plug for it.

Scott, where are you in Columbus?

like a ford plug? or what?

and i assume you mean the front will work fine without a d/s?

I am pretty sure that you need that slip yoke in there to keep fluid in the case.

thats what i was thinking.

But i figured i could strap an extra one in there and keep it in 2wd until i get a front axle and proper fitting driveshaft

The front output is sealed, No drive shaft needed. You may want to cap the hole where the drive shaft goes so that it doesn't get full of dirt and rust.
Many fords had speed sensors in the back of the trans/transfer that had no cable. They have a cap in the hole where the cable would be. get one of those speed sensors. If you buy a new one for the BII it comes capped, you have to uncap it to use the cable. It seams wasteful to buy a new one just to plug a hole though.

hmmm, so i already have the rubber cover for the driveshaft on there. I could just throw a baggy over it and tape it down?

and you are saying to buy a speed sensor? Just to get a cap? Got a pic or part number?

There are multiple different ways to cap the hole, that is just the most convenient way that I can think of. You may even be able to buy a freeze plug that will fit for less than $1.
Sorry, I don't know the part #. Just go to the local parts store and tell them you need a speed sensor for the BII.
The baggy and tape should be fine.
