Just wondering how much of a pain it is to replace the front and the rear seals on mine. The rear doesnt look to bad but the front being a slip yoke, I dont know how to do it or is it just that same kind of thing? Are there any special tools needed or will commomn everyday tools be able to do this job?:icon_confused:

I did notice a few weeks ago that something was making noise and after looking under my truck today, I can see fliud coming from around both of them.:annoyed: This is my DD so it cant be off the road to long. I now have to go order the seals due to they are special order but they will take a day or so to get in so hoping for an answer from you guy until then.:icon_thumby:

Thanks:icon_bounceblue:

i think the hardest part will be getting the thing out and then back in, unless you dont have help

I have done this to an auto tranny before and all we did was use a screw driver to get it out. As far as getting in, maybe a rubber malet and a block of smooth wood may get her in. I didnt know if there would be a difference between the two. Have to wait till tomorrow to get the seal. I do have help to do all of this, either my dad and a buddy that loves to work on rangers, he owns one himself and it is far from stock.

One the other hand have to change the front axle seals on my D30, looked up hoiw to do it and its no biggy but will be a time consuming thing but will have to get my new to me ujoint axle shafts some new ujoints and will do all of that at the sametime so that I dont have to take it apart twice.

Basiclly so much to do, so little time and money.

Its easy to replace the case seals. I suggest pulling the transfer case out. It will be alot easier to do it then. But with the tk4 all the transmission oil will leak out too. There is only 5 bolts that hold the case on the tranny. With help it shouldnt take long. I can swap cases pretty quick now by myself done it many times. It takes me about an hour to have it out and back in.
If i were u i would pull the case out.

Buy a seal puller. They are a cheap tool and makes it quick and easy to pop them out. As far as putting them in. Just take ur time and make sure it goes in evenly...
If u need help send me a msg on facebook. I get instant notifications on my phone.

Its the rear output shaft seal. All I have to do is pull the driveshaft and take off the yoke and I can pull out the old one and tap in a new one.

The front one I will have to look in the manual for...that is if I can find it.

Pulling the tansfercase will amke the job that much longer and time consuming and my next day off work is wednesday and I need to get this done soon.

Also hope the tranny isnt going out on her either. When coasting and push in the clutch and its in gear I hear abnormal noise such as grind and whatnot but take it out of gear doing the samething, no noise. But this all started when the seal went out.

We shall see what it is soon enough.

Found the truck manual and the front seal wont be hard to replace at all. But why the hell does it have to cost twice as much as the rear seal?

Wont be able to get to fixing it until Wednesday though so I will have to keep an eye on everything until then.

Do you have a PN for those seals?? I'm doing a MT swap here in a week or two, and gonna need them. I know because I just pulled the AT bout a month ago to replace the front seal on it, And I separated the t case and tranny to make it a lio easier. And I noticed the front seal on the t case is Gettin a little worn but I can't find any place that carries it. (autozone, napa, oriellys)

Idaho Transmission Warehouse has a kit, for $16 (I think), that has the front output seal, the rear output seal, the main input seal, the paper gasket that goes between the tranny and the TC, the rear seal for the output shaft nut, and o-rings for the shifter linkage and such.

And they've got most of the parts you might need to rebuild a 1350, and loctite RTV, and good oil, and speedo driven gears. (and maybe, just maybe, they could get another speedo drive gear, but I got their very last rear output shaft.)

They'll probably ship to you with little hassle, as well.
