first of all i want to know if this is illegal or if it can be legal in Pennsylvania. what i want to do is i want to have two mufflers, the stock muffler and a glasspack. i have two throttle bodies. i was going to put a flange on the side that bolts to the intake. then i would run one on before each muffler and have a lever in the cab to switch between the two. both mufflers are legal, so if there are no air leaks will this be legal to do?

what you are trying to say , i believe , is that you have 2 mufflers , one glass pack and one stock , i assume that the glass pack is ahead of the stock , and you want to put a gated pipe in between the two , so when you ar screwing around , you can be loud , and when you are cruising the freeway , you can be quiet , am i correct ?

no here is a pic i made to explain what i want to do.

the blue is the engine, the black is the exhaust pipe, the red is the throttle bodies, the brown is the mufflers. i hope that explains it.

that explains it , but that setup makes absolutely no sense whatsoever

why doesnt it, this way i can switch between mufflers without running it through both and decresing power and mileage.

it would make sense if you had dual exhaust , but the fact that bot mufflers run back to a single pipe make the whole setup useless , if you want to be able to switch one muffler off , why not eliminate it completly , you would be doing the same thing

he wants to be able to run one muffler or the other. one butterfly would be open at a time.

but once again, hes worried that his choice in mufflers will effect his mileage or performance. it will not. carrying around the weight of 2 mufflers and all the extra tubing will, however, decrease your fuel economy and power.

if you want to be able to be loud, run a stock muffler with a cutout ahead of it (but beware that most cutouts start leaking over time).

Don't they already make a muffler with a built in valve to do exactly what you want to do in a more compact and expensive package? I seem to recall seeing one on Trucks! or one of those other shows on PowerBlock... Google search failed me...

yes you are correct i want to switch to one muffler or the other. i just want to know if it legal.

I believe Warlock by Flowtech is the muffler your talking about.

No that wasn't it, although that does the same thing essentially. The one I remember actually had a butterfly valve controllable from inside the car. You could pull a lever, or flip a switch, and it would essentially turn your muffler into a straightpipe. I still can't find it online, it's been a few years since I saw it, maybe they never caught on...

You have 1 throttle body, its located at the air inlet. The part coming off the engine is the exhaust manifold.
Your DUAL catalytic converter is 1 converter. Converters are made up of 3 precious metals. Front converter has 2 of these, rear converter has 1. You would need to split the exhaust after the converters to keep it street legal. As long as you don't remove the converters and the exhaust exits out from under the truck, you are still legal.

check into "ball-type diverter valves" like they use at chemical plants. It's guaranteed not to leak, you only need one of em put in the right place behind the convertor, and the the valve will safely divert the exhaust to whichever muffler you choose:icon_hornsup:
