Hey guys, trying to help my buddy out, dumba*s went out and got his heep of jeep stuck and busted what i would call the steering linkage. I'm looking for the exact name if any of you guys can point it out. He's in camp so were just trying to get our ducks in a row for when he gets back.

If you follow the steering linkage, it comes out about half way across the grill, down to the passenger side tire, then heads straight back across to link the drivers side tire. It is the straight across bar that has snapped. Can anyone give me a positive I.D. on what exactly this will be called? I know as soon as someone says it I'll kick myself in the ass for not knowing it! Thanks,
Croot

Edit: Did some more digging, would this be a tie rod end adjusting sleeve?

K the one from the steering box to the knuckle is the drag link, the one between the 2 tires is the tie rod ( which on those jeeps I think is just a big adjuster sleeve IIRC)

Perfect, thanks, just wanted to confirm that. For the record, what he got stuck in the, the ranger made it though with little difficulty. Thanks again.:headbang:

i had the same thing happen with me last weekend. jeep went through a hundred yard long mud hole in 4lo bouncing off the rev limiter. then het got it stuck....then got mad when i went through the same hole and never spun a tire. and never went over 2000rpms. and had it in 2wd with the locker disengaged.....sometimes the rangers are just that damn good

I think it may have something to do with the fact that a ranger is so light. It just doesnt sink like the rest. But I can't say the ranger had no problem, I was see sawing and given 'er sh*t in 4 high. F350 that came to get us out got stuck with 35 " dick cepeck tires in 4 lo. It was a fun night, 11 truck by the end of it at 1:00 am on a wednsday night. good times
