Ok , Ill get out of my 2001 Ranger XLT just a lil bit up the street at the gas station and smell a burnt odor coming from under the wheel well , but it is not the tires. the Engine really didnt have the time to get hot, let alone real hot. I need an opinion. Is it a leak from somewhere on a warm part of the engine.. I have only had this truck since Feb. 12th ..

I love this truck so much .. I converted from a '97 4.3L Vortec H.O. S10 for a smaller engine/heavier Ranger XLT (4 door 3.0L)

I just want a clue at what I should be looking for .. It worries me that this smell could lead to a fire and I could be out $xxxxx.xx and my only real means of transportation.

Any Help would be much appreciated ... thanks ,

Rob :bawling:

check your brakes

Burning smells from the tire area is often due to brakes. Pull that tire off, inspect your brake pads, rotors, and calipers. Sounds like your brakes could be slightly engaged all the time. Try spinning the wheel with your hands, with it jacked up to test if brakes are engaged.

Im not sure about these trucks, but in some cases you can overextend and dislodge the caliper piston if your brakes wear down too much.

id guess brakes too.

I'd guess you have a hung caliper. Check your brake rotor, see if it is dark blue.

Could also be a failed brake hose to the caliper. Had that one happen to me on my mom's old car. Just collapsed in on itself and wouldn't release the pressure from the caliper. Cooked a rotor to the point I had to replace the rotor and pads, and totally bleed the system. Yet the seal in the caliper was fine.
