I would like two know if someone have advice about painting ranger bumper (steel). I sanded and painted it last year but today it is exactly in the same state (rust problem).

What it is the best primer and paint for this type of job.

i'd try to have it sand blasted if i had somehow to do it. then have it sprayed with a bed linner materal...my$.02

Ok Bed linner materal is it samething has gravel guard? Have used it for bottom door part. bed linner materal is it texture paint?

I am impressed by NAPA's "self etching" primer, I would use that, then a topcoat of whatever.

I was using the Rustoleuem found at Wal-Mart(the grey primer and the "heavily rusted brown), but the NAPA stuff is much better, adheres better.

they make it in a spray can but what i used comes in a quart can for doing roll on bedliners. allso comes in gallon cans. i just sandblasted mine and then sprayed a can of the $1.12 cheap assed primmer that walmart has on it left it dry for a couple hours. then rolled that bedliner stuff on and left it dry for a few days then painted the grey and black over that if you have seen my truck.. i run this truck through an automatic carwash daily when i'm in there cleanning and it hasn't showed any signs of pealing off yet and i've had it done for 3 weeks so far.

thank you for your awnsers. Is it easy to find bed linner materal at Napa or carquest store?

Yeah your local parts store should have roll on bed-liner. I'd stay away from the spray can stuff. A buddy got that and it's like sand in a can of spray paint, ie. not durable at all.

why spray stuff is not good?

Best bet is sandblasting then a good coat of POR-15 followed by primer then paint. It will NEVER rust again .

spray stuff is good...for a whole 2 months.

I had a toolbox that i found in the bush (completely rotted out)

i refurbished it with new aluminum and sprayed the "sand in a can" all over it.

It was nice, until about 2 months of sitting in the weather it went from a nice black to pale purple and started peeling..(keeping in mind that on the can it said it would bond to primed aluminum and other such metals) waste of my time to be honest.

My friend told me roll on Armaguard is the best, he has his full size bronco body panels completely rolled with 3 coats, and it still hasnt chipped, scratched or peeled off yet. Nor has the color faded.

I think when it comes to this kind of stuff, i'd rather pay outright for something i know is going to last, and not go the cheap route.

Its good that i didnt use the spray can shit on my bumper because i was going too when i rebuilt the toolbox..good thing, i'd be scraping it off, priming it again, and doing it over. Alas, it still is rusted out, but it wont be for much longer heh
