So the bumper builds are looking promising. Southern Steel, here in memphis, is looking like the best options for materials. My question is on the pad eyes, i know i need 3/4 or 1 inch stuff for that. but they want to charge me $65 for 1 foot of it, or $100 for 20 foot of it. So if i have to buy that, i'm getting the 20 foot.

what else can i get? where else can i get something thick enough to had the pad eyes so i'm not paying 100 for it. i know if i have to, i have to. I'm just asking options here....

pad eyes= clevis mounts, just depends on what i call them compared to you lol.
of course most ppl on here can just lead me towards a website... i copied this from my local off road forum that i posted it on first.

I'm not too sure what they look like but could you double, triple, or quadruple some material to make the thickness you want?

so that would work??? i thought about that, but i've never made bumpers before so... idk what the guy that's doing the building for me thinks of this tho.

Grind an angle on the edges of the 1/4 thick material so when they are place together it gives an area for the weld to go, this way when you grind it flat you are not grinding the entire weld away....34 thick is plenty :icon_thumby:

good deal, i'm gonna have extra 1/4 stuff... the guy told me to get 3/4 or 1 inch for that stuff. i was hoping i could stack the other stuff..

check out ebay.. theirs a ton on their for like 20 bucks... or take a few 3.4 pieces of 1/4 plate and weld up your own.. cheaper in the long run.

Send a message to THATGUY. I think he built his own bumpers, he will have some good ideas.

will do.
i got a guy from midsouthjeeps that is gonna take care of the clevis mounts in a 1 inch think! some beef stuff lol.. my plan is to start with a base like http://www.pirate4x4.com/forum/showthread.php?t=870917&highlight=explorer+rlc and then go a lil more custom from there. and i'm wanting to learn how to build bumpers anyways and i got a guy that is gonna show me some stuff. that guy from pirate does some good stuff. i just can't afford that, and i like building my own so...

Thanx for the plug Froggy.

Yeah I can get you what you need. The clevis mounts by themselves or I can get the base bumper material already bent up for you. PM me and we can discuss what you want.

Here's mine.

thanks thatguy but i have the guy that is gonna do the cutting and welding.. i almost wanna do something a lil different. idk yet..... the main thing i was trying to avoid was paying $65 for 1 foot of 3/4"x4.
also i wanna do something that almost has the side of the stock bumper, that wraps around the body... not just the flat bumper up front. personal opinion i suppose

I have the sides that mount to the bumper. I just didn't use them on mine because I'm going to a bigger tire and will be cutting more sheet metal. If you check out Legoms013 build thread and look at the bumper he bought, the side skirts I have are similar and bolt to the back of the bumper for the wrap around look.

thanks thatguy, we got the front covered i think...
but yeah, next thing....
how do i light up my license plate in the rear to be legal? i want something led that just puts light on the plate itself.
and my plan also includes the high lift, cb antenna, and ham radio antenna on the swing out tire mount. has anyone does this with the antennas? does it work good?
