What if I told you the engine was in?

No mounts yet but within a week crew.

We roped our welder in to make the mounts tonight. We didn't get to that point but we did need his skills to custom fab the pilot bearing removal tool.

We got the clutch on the engine, pretty straight forward in that regards.

Then after some finagling, we got the trans and engine attached!

Getting so close I can hear the gravel flying!

What those are, are sealed beam converter housings that let me run a standard H4 bulb. Then I put some wire screen over the lamps that used to be on the Oldsmobile.

I love those housings.

Update time: the engine is mounted in the car.

Had a buddy that welds way better than us come over and build us some brackets.

Also we sprayed some black paint and rubberized rocker guard inside the car to tidy up the floor a bit and give us a bit more foot grip when we're flying around in this thing.

Also fixed a window track that was having issues. We'll probably be back at it tomorrow, so we'll post an update if we get anything else productive done.

It's true, the motor is mounted up. We are looking to dress it up tomorrow. Battery and fuel pump should be here mid next week alongside some Jetta parts.

For the time being we are going to use the stock seats and restraint system until we can source a proper set of seats when we weld in our harness bar. In the pick I just jammed the old four speed shifter directly onto the S10 shift puck. I need to get a cradle for the trans but the stock S10 shifter will end up being right near where the shifter was originally in the car.

Dressed the engine today, at least as a mock-up. Withe the air cleaner on it really shows the angle we had to had to build into it to have the oil filter and block bossings to clear the steering column.

My plan is to build some risers into the hood to lift the scoop I bought so it'll all be covered up when the hood is closed.

I was wondering if you had clearance for the steering column. Now I'm wondering how you will work the exhaust manifold around it.

Funny story Martin, we have a trick solution involving the fact that the cylinder heads are symmetrical.

should have braced the floor up a bit....i know weight reduction is key, but the 4.3 has a hell of alot or torque compared to one mike power and a great curve.

is there a cradle to tie the front together planned?
