I have a 2008 ford ranger xlt 2wd. I researched a little on prerunners. Im about as new as it gets on working on vehicles. I just would like to know if im missing anything from what I gathered so far.

Rear suspension:
1.Bed Cage from dixonbrosracing
2.deaver leaf springs
3.fox coil over shocks (not sure if it needs to be 2.0 or 2.5)

Front suspension:
canburg 5.5 off road kit

also fiberglass, off road bumpers, and off road lights. spare tire carriers kinda complete the look too. rims with 3.75 back spacing are better, and dont forget bigger all terrian tires. AND a rear locker

Yeah im aware of thefiber glass, bumpers, lights and all the other shenanigans. I just have a kinda hard time grapsing the rear suspnsion. Guess i gots to do alittle more research. Thanks for the post.

no prob, and coilovers replace leaf springs cause of the coil spring on the coilover. lol

You have the right idea on the rear, just don't need coilovers. Rather you will need 14 - 18" reserviour shocks.

sweet. yeah i was looking at fox suspension and saw reservoir shocks but wasnt sure if i needed the coil or non coil.

Yeah you would need a non coil-over shock. Dixon Bros will point you in the right direction on what shocks to get for use with their bed cage.

i would recommend a 2.5 vs a 2.0, with a remote reservoir. a 2.0 will overheat very quickly, but a 2.5 will get to the right temperature to work great with the camburg kit without overheating

sweet thanks thats pretty much the last thing i needed to know before i go buying the parts. hopefully i can start this project soon

Here are a few pics of a sweet ranger prerunner to help you out with the setup.

first off thats a sweet ride second i guess im leaning more to the full on prerunner. i want to be able to handle the jumps but not blow all my money on the truck. my price range is around 4,000. I do have a question about the ride on the pic. i see what looks like two types of shocks on the rear. From what i thought all i would need for the rear is the bed cage, 2.5 reservoir shocks and what the shocks connect to. Im positive im leaving out more of course. Sorry im just still tryin to comprehend the rear suspension.

Do the deavers with a shackle flip (to a tension style shackle) and mount your shocks from the bedcage. There's not much more to it on your setup.

That trucks running bypass shocks w/ resi'd coilovers on a triangulated 3/4link setup... little more $$$ on that setup, haha.

i wouldn't recommend jumping too much with the camburg 5.5 kit in the front. it's not a full long travel kit, and you'd risk damaging the stock snouts and hub assemblies, or bending the stock lower control arms. also, a set of 2.0x2" long bump stops would help a lot for bigger hits.
in the pictures posted above, that truck has a 4 linked rear end. the links replace the leaf springs, so on each side he has a coilover, and a secondary bypass shock. the bypass shock allows greater fine tuning of the suspension travel.
for your set up, you need the dixon bros bedcage like you listed, shocks, and then new shock mounts on your axle.
