build thread for 2.8 carb to chevy tbi.

filling her up helped

i.e. higher fuel level=less distance the pump needs to "suck"

this confirms my suspicions. and all of the several posts throughout this thread saying that all electric fuel pumps need to be gravity fed. either by being located in-tank, or by a "drain" fitting at the bottom of the tank

again, this is why I wrote the tech article to incorporate the OEM mechanical pump.

I understand that but my oem pump lead to long crank times...

The flow should be able to keep up with the amount of fuel the 2.8 consumes

If so, there was likely an issue with the pump itself. but that's fine. an in-tank is another solution, or you could take your higher pressure pump and gravity feed it like I do, and eliminate the low pressure pump entirely

which "flow" are you referring to?

Gravity flow should be able to. I do wonder of the high pressure pump isnt keeping up. It may be able to build pressure but is it able to keep up?

My mr.gasket 12s feeds my hungry 5.0 with no problem at 7-8 mpg that I'm getting only because my gearing is so low because of the np435 I put behind it. Also able to do 75mph and not have any furl starvation issues either.

I've always had fuel delivery issues, with the b2, I've replaced the tank, sender a year ago and it solved them until they popped back up which caused me to do this swap along with hopefully the added mpg

I keep forgetting to ask I had to remove the inner tub on my fuel neck to use the explorer filler neck, is this a problem?

no, in fact most of us have seen less spitting/backing up when filling at the pump, with that inner hose removed

Well for some reason that is the opposite for me, if i dont have the nozzle just right it will kick off as soon as i start pumping... I swear my truck is cursed, or just wants to stay dead... Any way getting a tank with in tank pump tomorrow, pick n pull is having 20-50% off everything and i mean everything. Ill also be pulling parts for a front end conversion on my ranger:) as well as what ever i find thats interesting:) i love junkyards. Whats the saying one mans trash is another's salvation?

well, that would solve all of your problems. an in tank pump would allow you to run the return line into the tank instead of the filler neck. it will supply all the fuel you need.....boom problem solved

Back on the fuel pressure subject.

So your FP gauge is mounted after the high pressure pump and it's showing that you have a bad pressure drop causing problems. But is there a way to hook it after the low pressure pump, before the high pressure one, and see if it for some reason isn't keeping up?

Also are the injectors opening up to much and to long just dumping fuel causing the sudden drop in pressure?

should i use the higher pressure pump from an 89 "100psi" or the lower pressure from a 86-88 "4-7 psi"
i already picked a high pressure but i can go back and say its defective and pick the lower pressure in tank pump and sender...

either one, if you use the low press pump, you will still need your secondary pump. if you go with the high press pump, you won't need a secondary pump

What exactly is the pressure of the high pump from the 89up
