Did a bit of a road trip over the weekend and covered nearly 1000miles and I was wandering do the bug deflectors really work to keep the windscreen clear?

Washed the windscreen 4 times while on the road and by the time I got home the front of the truck looked like something from a horror film!!!

The bug deflector that I have on my 87 Ranger does great. My windshield rarely gets bugs on it, as well as the snow and rain when I'm at highway speeds. Tho mine is a fairly swept back deflector that pitches almost straight up at the last 1.5 inches or so. When It's snowing is when I can see it in real action as the air flow off of the hood sends the snow shooting right up over the cab about 2 feet from the windshield. Others that I have seen that don't have that last little curve upward at the top don't perform quite as well tho. I can post some pics of mine this weekend when I get back to my camera if you would like.
