buffing glass???

i have a car that i has many fine scratches in the glass from the windshield wiper......can you buff out auto glass or would it be better to just replace it?

Go new. Glass doesnt really polish up.

I polished the windshield my 67 fastback 'Stang last month. I used the kit from Eastwood. Mine was only glazed and not really scrached bad. It came out looking great. If you have deep scratches it will not work, you will only make it worse. You need a new windshield, Bro.

I have heard of people using bon ami cleaner, back in the day, but I have never used it myself.

For glazing or hard water marks the way Cat did it is fine. Especially if it's on a side window or back glass.

Don't mess with the windshield, just get a new one.

I used to work at a glass shop where I built and installed custom glass shower enclosures. We had a buffer that I used to use that would take out scratches really nicely. But I was working on 3/8"-1/2" thick glass panels that were pretty spendy. You can get a new windshield for pretty cheap, it wouldn't be worth it.

Honestly you can polish anything. And I'm not saying that because I watched the Mythbusters episode. It's speed, compound, technique, etc. All it is is the process of removing larger scratches by putting in much more smaller scratches.

But by the time you practice enough to get it right, spend the money on the equipment and supplies, you might as well just replace it. It's just a windshield.
