Hello out there,, just a few questions on all these little cheap ways to lift your rig. 03 FX4 L2 . Looking for constructive opinions , for the front we have metal spacers for the bottom of the coil, rubber spacers in the coil, or poly up top, anyone better. Does anyone make a 1.5-2" lift coil, who make factory coils, mines sag. Seems stuff is limited for newer years.

Thanks for the info.

P.s. off subject , planning on doing a auto to manual swap , any good links or info

Well your truck shouldn't have coil springs if I am correct in assuming it is a 4x4? It should have a torsen bar setup with is not a bad setup and you can get 2" of lift for the price of an alignment. and the back you can get a set of belltec shackles or leave it be. You would be able to fit 33's with ease then.

However if it does have coils and its a 4x4 you already have a lift. They don't make them any more but the RCD lift replaced the t bars with coil overs, it was a 4" lift i believe. or 5.5"

Yeah Fx4 should have torsion bars... the only problem you'll run into with just cranking your T-bars is your ride quality will decrease, but if you don't mind that that's a good thing to do for a small lift.

I don't think it reduces ride quality...? It makes it better and a little stiffer with better handling. the bumps may be a tad bit worse but not much
"These vehicles use a torsion bar suspension and the amount of "preload" on the bar is adjustable at the rear end of the bar. All that's needed is a couple turns with a wrench and wala! You just gained an inch. Don't overdo it, though. On these models its not good to crank them for more than 1.5-2" lift, otherwise you will lose most of the suspension's down travel which will make for a rather rough and jarring ride. Over cranking it can also cause the torsion bar (spring) to sag."

It would appear that what I'm thinking of is that if you crank them excessively then you will get a rougher ride... My apologies.

I'm dumb , so what I am wondering is where does the front end sag come from, can you get height from the shock , mount spacers? just brain storming

Sag comes from over-stressing the springs, making them wear out faster. You will get no height from a longer shock. They aren't meant to bear weight and if you manage to jam a longer one in and gain height from it, then it is compressed so far that it's not doing its job.

If you have actual coils then you can put spacers under them, but as stated before, you should have torsion bars. To get a proper lift (above the 2" available from cranking them) you need drop brackets.
