Bucket Seat Interchange

I'd like to know if a set of bucket seats from either (or both of) the following two vehicles will install in my '95 Ranger Ext Cab with manual floor shift. I currently have a 60/40 setup.

1. 1992 Explorer high back manual buckets & nice center console.

2. 1989 Ranger Ext Cab XLT, high back buckets with center console.

The Explorer has a nicer console with side-by-side drink holders, the Ranger has only one holder, but better designed seats. I can get everything including seat tracks & hdwe.

I'm an older guy and very experienced in body work, and all phases of mechanical repairs. Just not familiar with my new (to me) rust free pickup.

Either like new interior will cost $75.00, but that's not a good deal if it won't interchange. Any help will be apreciated.

I have a '90 Ranger that I put '98 Explorer seats in, I just used the seat tracks from my old seats and I also put in a console from about a '94 Explorer.

Either of your options would work, it might just be a matter of swapping the seat tracks out since the floor pan will probably be different between the models you have listed.

yea, use the seat tracks from your current seats and either set will work fine... also, with a manual tranny you want the single cup holder, trust me, with the side by side holder any drink (even cans) will get in the way of the shifters, there's another cup holder option that is a direct swap that is handy too, has them one behind the other, that's what I swapped into my ranger and explorer

What Scott said.

I have the dual side by side drink holder. When I mounted the center console I just mounted it far enough back from the shifter that it wasn't a problem with it or my hand hitting the drinks.

I have the old 1st gen style single holder. I only have problems with the tallest of drinks, like SoBe bottles. But most things that tall don't fit in it anyway.

well, with an extended cab sure, just move the console back further, I had some limitations in my regular cab... and didn't feel like moving the one in the explorer, but yes, an inch or so would do

Thanks guys, great information. I'll get one of the setups early next week...I'll do some measuring and see if the Ranger seats and Explorer console will fit/look good together. I like this truck, but it sure is stiff in the rear (uncomfortable ride over bumpy streets).

I'm a member of the FE Forum, which is a big-block engine(390, 427,428) forum. It's a great forum with very little b/s-politics-rude people, and it appears this forum may be very similar. I don't frequent obnoxious forums. My "hobby" car is a restored performance '64 Galaxie.

Great tech info on this forum by the way...glad I found y'all. Terry

We also have a tech library: http://www.therangerstation.com/tech_library/index.php

On of the articles shows putting an Explorer console in.

I agree with you on there being few rude people here. We have a subforum called the tailgate where almost anything goes if people want to BS about politics. I'm on several different forums of varying topics and I've found the people are best here. Eager to help out, not rude, have good technical experience. Plus we're allowed to have fun in here. I'm on another forum where the mods will yell at you if your post is even a little off topic!

Actually, my console is back about as far as it can go. The trans tunnel drops off around the back of the seat tracks, and so if I move it back any it won't sit level or have a huge gap between the back and the floor.

I read that tech article and will be using the information for my upgrade. I asked about the seat interchance mainly because I haven't been able to find any of the tech recommended car seats; at least, no quality sets. Lots of trucks in my area and parts are sometimes not too expensive. Thanks.

The Mustang GT seats are really nice, they'll bolt to the seat tracks as well. The extra tall side and hip bolsters give you a secure feeling. That said, I just sumbled onto a set of "free" Explorer buckets that I'm going to build new risers for. Can't hardly beat that price...
