Hi trs folks, I recently got a nice 88 b2 and I want to do budget build. I have some great junkyard connects and want to put an 8.8 rear from an explorer. I found one w the spring perches on top of the axle and I think that all I will have to do is weld shock mounts and change the yoke?

you found an explorer 8.8 w/ the perches on top?
or is it a ranger 8.8(probably this...)

there is a difference. the ranger is a 28 spline and the explorer is a 31 spline. personally if you gotta buy something, just get the stronger option now and weld perches on top. ruffstuff (awesome company) makes a simple 8.8 swap kit.. but you can home fab cheaper if you can weld...
if i was you, i'd find an explorer 8.8, disc brake, and 4.10 gears. limited slip if you dont' wanna weld the diff or buy a locker... or open carrier if you want buy an aussie locker for it. need an open carrier for that.

also, find a d35 ttb front axle...4.10's in those are RARE!! and expensive. that's one of the reasons i went to 4.56's...

explorer coils/leafs, washer lift, and shackles with cut fenders could probably get you to 32's or so.. add a small body lift and could get to 33's... maybe more. used RC 4" lifts go for CHEAP.. i'll have one for sale here soon.

if you have the CV rear driveshaft... change it now or expect to change it soon...

edit: OH YEAH, WELCOME!

Thanks for the intell, yea it is an eddie bauer 94 explorer and looks stock. I will be getting it this sat, #s on the diff tag s6220 3L73 88 3k18 I am new at this so bear w me, the axle has the bigger tubes and maybe the owner did a leaf over but it looks stock. any way I will shoot a pic then. Also I think the D35ttb from an explorer is a easy swap? Last question, does the M5od r2 bolt up to my 2.9 with only a flywheel clutch set and starter needed? I maybe shouldnt have called it a budget build as I will pony up for a lift kit and gears, but I want a sturdy rig as affordably as possible. Thanks a lot for your time, R.

a 94 explorer (eb or not...) will have spring under axle from factory.. so its been changed if its spring over.
3L73 is a limited slip 3.73 so...not bad. will be nice till you regear compared to the normal 3.27's that seem to show up.
the d35 is ALMOST bolt in for your bronco 2. driveshaft will have to be shortened.
the md05, idk...

if i was you, i'd get the 8.8 and d35 from that guy w/ the 94 explorer.

Most excellent. Thanks, I will get them, the drive shaft may be ok w 6 inch lift? will have to get wrenching to work it all out. Oh yea it rained all over my paper and after further scrutiny I believe it is 327. I cross my 7s and it all bled together. I will get it going this sat, much thanks, R.
