Bronco to Ranger Trans Swap?

Alright, you guys, I have an other question. If I have a 1983 Bronco, what would it take to swap the transmission into my 1984 Ranger?
 
Probably more trouble than it's worth. I assume the Bronco is full size since the BII came out in 1984. That means the bellhousings don't match up. Some custom fabrication/adapter would need to be used in order to make it work.

If it's a manual transmission, I would recommend a M5OD-R1 from a later Ranger or Explorer (or BII), 1988 and up. If it's an automatic transmission, I would recommend an M5OD-R1 from a later Ranger or Explorer (or BII). But maybe I'm biased since I don't like automatic transmissions very much.
 
And if its a Bronco II? Could it work if my Ranger is manual, and the Bronco is automatic?
 
I think it could be made to work. You would need the flexplate from the donor BII, as well as the shifter and linkage and whatever tidbits are needed to make an automatic transmission run. Basically, the transmission should fit since BIIs and Rangers used the same transmissions. Take BII tranny + misc parts and put on your Ranger.

Wow. So much wrong with that information.

Lets start with the first paragraph. The transmissions from the Ranger and the Bronco II are the same assuming the model number is the same. And they use the same transmissions.

Manual transmissions are: TK-4, TK-5, FM-132, FM-145, FM-146 and M5OD. The TKs were the only ones used in 84.

The FM145 is 2 inches shorter than the A4LD. The 146 the M5OD are the same length as the A4LD.

The part about the rear shafts not swapping is correct. You will need to make sure that your new trans is the right length or you will need to find a drive shaft that is the right length.
 
Pretty sure that would work. The fuel tank would then take the place of your spare tire. I think several people have writeups about this swap on TRS, try searching for it.
