Bronco II tranny swap

I currently have a 89 BII with a mits fm 146 tranny. I found a m505D tranny from a 1994 explorer and was wondering if it will fit. Will any of the other parts fit on my BII from the explorer? I need tie rod ends and other things to fix my suspension and I could probably get the explorer for pretty cheap
 
I would get the whole explorer and swap the drivetrain into your bronco....motor trans, front and rearends. The 94 has the Dana 35 front axle and the 31 spline 8.8 rear but still has drum brakes. But if all you want is the transmission then you will need to get everything including the flywheel.
 
I would like to swap the whole drivetrain into my bronco at some point but right now I need it for transportation, so I would have to wait til later to swap the engine and the axles. Would I be able to put the trans in without any mods?
 
Also, would I be able to keep the clutch bell housing from my fm 146 for the m50D?

No.

The M5OD has a 1 piece case with integral bell housing. The 4.0 shares a bolt pattern with the 2.9 though, so it's not an issue. It will bolt right up to the back of your engine, no muss, no fuss.

Also, you don't NEED the 4.0's flywheel. I do recommend it. 4.0 flywheel, clutch, and starter for a 4.0 manual transmission. Basically a whole clutch job. It is a very nice setup.

The M5OD and FM146 are not identical but they are very very similar in length and setup and shouldn't need much modification.

So if i am reading right--- the m50d will bolt in, but need the clutch stuff, will the transfercase bolt on? what mods to drivelines will need done? Anything with shifter for trans? my t-case is electric.
 
It is a direct bolt up to the motor. The transfercase will fit just fine. Use the shifter from the M5OD and all should be fine.
 
tcase will bolt right up, no drive shaft mods, you don't have to get a 4.0 clutch but its beneficial, I didnt when i did the swap. but if i have the money for a new starter i would have.
