Bronco 2 project for my son

I agree... that grill setup looks awesome.

Got a little more free time with the bronco project today. We are tearing the Navajo apart and gathering the parts we need to clean up and use on our bronco ! This is a good day! Also found out it has 3.73 gears and limited slip carrier. Gonna use the rear out of this and just go to the junk yard and pull a disc brake set up off an axle out there.

Not huge progress, but still trying to divide up my free time, work, and the “honey do list”
Got the front clip cut off the Mazda today, drive shafts disconnected, transmission drained, transfer case drained and dropped. Tomorrow I am pulling it out of there!

Had to leave the Y pipe on while I took the drivetrain out because the bolts were so badly rusted. It wasn’t easy, but I got it out of there today! Transmission has been replaced at some point….. (go figure A4LD) Got the torch out and got the Y pipe off too!

Slight change in plans. Still doing everything on the bronco that was planned, just going with a different 4.0. My buddy bought a truck from me a few years back (almost perfect 93 ranger 4.0 ex cab) for his grandson… well grandson was 15 at the time and he totaled it. I helped him out with a few things and he gave me the truck. So the engine from the 93 ranger is going in the bronco (still sealing it) and the 2000 explorer 4.0 is gonna be going in my 96 ranger that I have sitting on the back burner.
On a positive note… I got the brake parts I needed today, knuckles, rotors, and spindles!

And finally after all the catching up I can finally work on this little bronco !
We did a few small things to it such as getting the intake off, alternator removed, A/C compressor removed, fan and shroud off, and a few other odds and ends things. We will be working on this one Now since my son is in drivers education. Gonna be pulling the drivetrain first then it’s going on jack stands for the removal of the front and rear ends!

Still have a few things to do to tie up the grille/bumper set up, such as extending the pigtail for the turn signal since it’s now in the bumper. Also have to modify the brackets for the front bumper since the bolt holes don’t match from Navajo to bronco. I really like that way it looks.

Gonna be getting some new front coils instead of the ones from the Navajo…. Any suggestions? I’ve been hearing about the skyjacker (soft ride?) coils with the shocks…. I want this thing to look and ride as good as an old 89 can

When I bought my '88 BII it had a 3-inch body lift and the body mounts/bushings were completely trashed (in addition to the body being misaligned on the frame). I replaced that with a 2-inch body lift and new mounts/hardware from Duff.

After replacing EVERY suspension bushing, I then did the complete Skyjacker system (1.5-2 inch suspension lift) and replaced the leaf springs with new ones (which needed the Skyjacker helper spring to properly level the ride height).

What REALLY chapped my backside was my camber was not even remotely in spec, even with 3-degree cams, after the install, which required my to buy their axle and radius arm pivot drop brackets, which was NOT inexpensive. While those brackets are part of the higher-lift lift kits I had to purchase them separately to get the alignment within spec.

Without double checking I'm pretty sure I'm running 31x10.5x15 KO2s and they look, fit and ride awesome. Now that the alignment is done I can literally drive on the interstate with a finger on the steering wheel; it's THAT stable and considering the extremely short wheelbase, smooth.

I live in the extreme SW AZ desert and I needed my BII handle on/off road equally well and although the path to where I am now wasn't straight, I wouldn't change anything I did to get to where I'm at now...
