broken shift lever on column

Greetings all, i have a 2000 Ranger 4x4
I was trying to pull out of a parking space, when I tried to take it out of park
the lever snapped and would just wiggle.Is this as bad as it seems(new column).Truck was still able to start (stuck in park?)but can't get the key out.
