Broken Rear Shock Bolt...ideas?

This is a bad picture, but it's the passenger's side rear shock absorber post (I think that's what you'd call it). I noticed the threads are ruined. I noticed there is a kit that I can get to replace it, but it'd require a lot of grinding/cutting to get the old one out. Any ideas as to what I should do?

I just changed a whole shock mount over the weekend. I just cut off the 3 rivets and replced it with one from another frame I have. You could always get a die and rethread it but you would probably have to go a size smaller...like 7/16 or 3/8 or 10 or 11 mm.

I was thinking of rethreading the bolt, I found an old kit in the garage, was more concerned with the safety of doing that - but I guess it'd be fine.

I would probably try that first.
