Broken line coming out of air box

Its the plastic tube that comes out of the air box @ a right angle and goes over to the firewall and runs along the back. It is broken and im not sure where it used to go...or how important it is. There appears to be another line coming out near the middle of the engine with a homemade plug in it....perhaps it used to mate up with this airbox line???

What do those 2 lines that come out of the airbox do?

first pic is what appears to be a line with a makeshift plug in it. Second pic is the line from the air box, which seems to be broken and zip tied to the back.

Second one looks like it runs to the evap solenoid on the firewall drivers side with green cap.

hmmm. Here is a better way to ask this question. What do the 2 lines coming out of the top of the air box do?? what is their purpose?? Do i need them hooked up because one is broken
