My car had shut off last night randomly (I thought i ran out of gas). so i got some gas, filled it up and it started just fine. drove about 5 mins and it died again. I wait a little bit until it cools down and then it starts fine. No idea what's causing this. so i went out and got a fuel pump relay (since i dont hear the fuel pump prime when the truck cuts off).

As i'm installing the fuel pump relay, I notice this green wire that has been disconnected from something. Does anyone know what this is????

I would have to go look to be certain, but something tells me that is part of the ignition system.

total wild @$$ guess. Izzit a ballast resistor? If it is , that why the engine wont start. The coil isn't getting juice with the key in the run position. A meter could tell you some stuff

The truck still starts fine when it's cold. I just replaced the ignition coil (MSD :)), fuel relay, and fuel filters. starts fine. seems to be running fine now. drove it for 10 minutes.

I'm still very curious as to what this wire is. I'm under the impression the rubber piece is a fuse?

Wiring problems?

Use the S.W.T.M. test method:

Start the vehicle
Wiggle each wire(harness)
Thump each connection & relay
Multimeter each suspected wire to check for proper voltage

ALSO.......

Save ALL the parts that you threw in the trash can before testing them---they're all still good!

I am pretty sure that wire is for the coil trigger.

My 88 doesn't have the block right there, and my 87's first set of wires are in Jersey doing who knows what, it's second set is in Minnesota running around with 7.5STX, and it's current set is for a 4.0, it that won't be there.

Still, I'm like 95% sure that is the trigger wire for the coil.

wouldn't the truck not start if it was the trigger wire?

or a fuse? like the ones going to the starter solenoid except this one is much bigger..

There is enough there that the truck could run.

See if you can follow it back to one of it's ends.
