Hey fella's,

On my 302 the dipstick tube has rusted and broken. My question is, how do you remove it from the block to replace it with a new one? The motor is out of a 97 mountianeer if it matters. Thanks in advance!

It's just lightly pressed into hole. Should be easy to remove.

How much if anything is still sticking up out of the block? Maybe something like a small bearing puller would fit inside the tube and let you pull it out.

thanks for the quick replies. There is a few inches sticking out, but its pretty brittle. I will soak it down with PB and see what I can do with it tomorrow.

Just grab the stub with vise-grips and pull it out, twisting back and forth while pulling. It's no great science. And before the detractors piss and moan, if a bit falls through into the pan, no biggie, that's why the oil pick up has a screen, and the pan has a magnet. Those things are just hand pushed into the hole anyway, and held in place with the bracket/screw above. The only thing easier to remove in that truck is the keys.

:icon_thumby: I was going to suggest the same, just push it all the way into the pan.(if he can't get it out) It's not going to affect anything in there anyway.

I got it out. Lucky for me, its on a stand so I turned it over took the oil pan out and tapped the bottom side til it came loose then yanked her out. I didnt realize it was just pushed it. With all the rust and crap around it, it almost look welded in. Thanks for the help.
