:icon_confused:just finished welding up my front diff ,replaced all u-joints and promptly ripped the ears right off theshafts at the knuckle, weakest link? dana 28.:beer::beer::beer::beer:

ya i have my dana 28 welded also and i have broke several ears off the axle shafts i even some how broke the passenger side shaft that goes into the diff. housing. To help avoid this try not to have your wheels at full lock left or right when you get on the throttle. it puts the axle joints in a bind and eventaly the weakest link (being the ears) will break. i have done everything from twisting them into pretzels to granading them and who knows where the peaces went. After all of this i still like my front diff. welded vs open.

broken knuckles

yeah, got it togther went up to the end of my road where the blm startssnow was about 2 1/2 feet deep all was going really good untill i went to turn around and pop went the ears

As cheap and plentiful as D35s are, I see no reason to put any time or money in a D28. They can live on 31s with a locked rear but asking more than that is too much IMO.

ya i went snow wheelen yesterday and was fine i also have been through probably 5 shafts all together. thank fully i have a local pull and save junk yard that has treated me well. ya all i can say is try not to hammer down the skinny peddle when turning but i relize its kinda hard some times. what are you running for tires and gears?

im running 325/60/15 (31/13.50/15) km's on 15x10 rims with welded front and open rear for now i am just trying to get by untill i can find an early bronco dana 44 for the front just picked up a dana 44 rear just waiting to put it in.

im interested in doing a doubler set up also i have 3 transfer cases but there all 1350s all the info i find calls for 1350 1354 any particuar reason?

hell i broke shafts all the time with my d28 and an open diff and 235/75/15s

A lot of people poo poo it but if you put a hybrid in it really helps.I didn't break any ears but kept wiping out u-joints with 33s and a locker.I didn't want to give up my 4.11s I was able to move my lock right to the hybrid and run big u-joints.It's worked really well and saved me $700 in gears and another locker.

I'll second that. Why would anyone fix a d28. Even if the parts were free to fix it, I wouldn't want the risk of it breaking and leaving me potentially stuck without 4wd.
