ok, so i plan to do a relocation of all my breathers in preparation of the upcoming spring melt, in my already extremely muddy favorite OHV area... i'll do a how to in another thread once i'm done, but i want to get some info before i get it all done...

the rear diff, that's simple, there is a breather hose that comes up to the top of the drivers side frame rail in the wheel well

but where are the breathers for the manual trans, and auto (electronic) t-case? i know that the front diff apparently has a big loop on it for a breather, how easy is this to extend, where do i get access from? i have a front skid plate with the fx4 package, so between the bumper and front diff is fully enclosed on my truck...

also, what do you guys use for tubing? did you need any additional parts other than tubing?

my truck, so no one needs to look to the left of this post, is an 07 fx4 level II with a 4L, manual trans, auto t-case i know the rear diff is a 4.10 torsen diff

Just a suggestion but you could use 3/8" fuel line to extend rear to top of bed line between bedside and box, t/c extend to top of bed line behind cab inside the box the same way. Trans to front under hood by hood hinge or to same spot as t/c (Trans may have trouble with mine just has a cap on top for AOD). Front Diff to under the hood by the hood hinge as well. With ifs that should be easier than ttb suspension. Any concerns or questions let me know.

that's kinda what i had planned... i actually have NO idea where to even start looking for the breathers on the tc and tranny, to be honest with you, the front diff i have seen pics of, so i should be able to find it... if its not where i think it is, it can't be far... it will be on the top of the pumpkin...

The t/case vent is on the front of the case, near the front output shaft. My co-worker has a trans and t/case out of a 99 right now and I can't find an external vent on the trans. Does anyone know if they are vented through the rear of the trans and through the t/case? It's got me stumped. I've had dozens of those things out over the years and never needed to find the vent.:icon_confused:

xr650, any chance you could snap a pic of the breather on the tc? i'd greatly appreciate it!

i'm actually thinking when i do this, i might splice a y into the breather line, so the tc and manual vent from the same tube... no need to run 2 hoses the entire length of it... especially seeing as they start at the same place...

also, anyone know what all you need to do this? any spesific connectors that thread into anywhere or anything? or is it just tubing and hose clamps?

The M5OD trans doesn't have a breather tube. They breath out the top, where the shifter goes in. I've heard of people installing custom breathers for your purpose, however.

oh rely?

any threads you can cite or pics? there is a river i must cross this spring, that will be deep, and my snorkel might not be high enough...

not my pic, but this i have crossed in the past, the guy says his bush bar's top is 50" tall, i will be crossing this i'm sure, in the spring when the ice all melts... it wasn't nearly this deep when i crossed it... there's a video somewhere on here...

so drill and tap a hole in the side/top of the trans and install an air line essentially... i would think a larger line would solve the fluid running up the tube, problem, or were those auto's? there shouldn't be much pressure in the manuals...

What I did was I took that rubber hook looking breather off the front diff to my local autoparts store, and they matched it to the same size rubber fuel line hose, and I bought about 10' of it.

Then I just ran the front breather up to the battery/fuse block area by the master cylinder and zip tied it accordingly.

On the rear one I bought a barbed fitting and extended it up to the top of the tail light.

Haven't got around to extended the tranny and transfercase ones yet....but I don't typically drive in deep water so I'm fine for now.

sweet thanks for the reply, i'm going to give it a try tomorrow if i can get off the couch (so sore)

10' more than enough?

what was the easiest way to access the front one?

Yes If my memory serves me correctly, 10' was more than enough. The front used a lot more than the rear, because in the rear all you have to do is find the end and splice into it another 3' or so. I use something like 3' up front and 3' out back maybe? :icon_confused:

Is your truck lifted? For the front one I just ran the hose like an ARB air line, loose, but out of the way so it doesn't catch on anything yet has plenty of slack for suspension travel. Also, as a precaution I used a steel hose clamp on the hose where it comes off the diff so that it couldn't be pulled off accidentally.

ok, that's a good idea with the clamps... i won't be able to get to mine today, as i work at 11pm tonight after work at 7am tomorrow morning, i'm heading wheeling for a good 10 hours, it's 2pm now, i still have to change my tires and pull the valance off my truck... after all of that is done, i really should nap...

yeah i've got a 3" BL

i think i'm going to run my rear forward to between the box and the cab
