I bought a later Explorer 8.8 rear with disc brakes but want to retain drum brakes. Will the Ranger 8.8 drum brakes fit or are the axles to long? What are my options. Thanks

Backing plate mounting is different between an Explorer and a Ranger (not sure, but the drum width might be different also).

You should be able to use the drum setup from an older Explorer on it though ('91-'94)... At least I know there are a few here who have swapped the brakes going the opposite way (drums to disc on an older axle).

Why do you want drums over discs? Discs are superior to drums in almost every way.

The swap to discs is easy, go discs, much better...

If you want the easy way to swap to discs, get yourself another passenger side outer brake hose, and two of the nuts for the hard lines, cut the hard lines where the stock line sits on the top of the pumpkin, stick the nuts on the lines and crimp the lines for them, install on stock center drop line. Of course I think the stock Explorer setup works too, but I wanted more than 3" of down travel on the drivers rear tire...
