My credo
Race it - Break it - Fix it - Repeat
87 Ranger V8 swapped drag race only. Had to add a vacuum canister to work the power brakes since my camshaft makes very little vacuum. Problem is that just added weight I now want to get rid of. I need to swap out the power brakes for manual and I need to know how it's done properly. Do I use the same master cylinder? What about the push rod? Is there another hole on the pedal I need to swap to? Need to get rid of these things and their associated hoses.....

I would go with this...

What about doing a hydro boost swap?

That would be adding weight - I want manual brakes because I'm trying to get rid of the power booster and the vacuum canister.

Just use the light, cloth parachute. Get rid of ALL the brake system components. ;missingteeth;

Oh, that’s right, you’ve probably already deleted the power steering, I was about to say not really adding weight since it would replace the booster and the vacuum canister with the hydroboost unit and a couple power steering lines…

My thought was that I read something recently that there’s a certain year range hydroboost donor that almost bolts in, so my original comment was geared towards simplicity and eliminating the vacuum canister.

On that note, maybe I should try finding that information again, maybe someone makes a manual brake setup that bolts into whatever donor truck you’d use for hydroboost… if that makes sense

Looks like the Hydroboost that was claimed to be a bolt in swap was from an 88-96 F-series truck, so if you can find a manual brake setup for that vintage, it may just bolt in…
