Anyone else finding our Rangers extra prone to rusting out brake lines?

I had the lines on the rear axle rust through a few years ago, tonight I go to move the truck and foot hit the floor, theres a line under the hood spraying fluid everywhere.

I've dealt with cars from the 60's through 80's with the original lines without these issues.

Now I need to figure out if I can get this line or have to make it? 95 4.0 4x4 auto trans, line goes from the ABS module (I think, behind battery, in front of master cylinder). It then appears to go down under the engine, of course it is also pouring out so can't get a great look.

Its not uncommon for them to rot out. It's hit or miss. My 91 still has original brake lines front to rear on it.

As for replacing it, you'll have to make it up yourself.

Struggling to talk myself in to keeping it, too many issues piling up :bawling: This of course not being the biggest dollars, but safety.

Eating some coolant, auto trans acts up, rear bumper rusted through.

I've had cars up here that had lines rust through in 10 years or so.
Salt eats them up. Cars that I rinse off the undercarriage regularly in winter survive better.
I usually make my own lines, not that hard or as expensive.
By the way, nice to see another New England 2006 Vista Blue GT owner here.:icon_thumby:

Well our weather is why I'm "ok" about the bumper but the brakelines seem to be a on faster destructive pattern than other vehicles. 10+ year older vehicles with double the mileage in our same area without an issue :icon_confused:

And ya I love my Vista :icon_thumby:

fords brake lines rot out quick. every ford ive had or worked on had rusted brake lines. good thing is, its an easy fix. bending and flaring brake lines is so simple then all you gotta do is hook em up.

Ive done all the lines on my 94 now. I think the one your talking about goes to a splitting block for the right and left then follows the engine cross member across to the passenger side. (least thats how it was on mine). you'll have to make your own lines but its not too hard, the tricky part is not breaking anything else while your doing it (flex hoses, other lines, bleeder screws, ect.) thats how mine turned into a 10 hour multi-auto-zone-trip project, haha. Just soak everything reeeeal good in penetrating fluid before you go to work.

Still seems crazy that one of the simplest seeming items on the vehicle, which are also one of the biggest pieces of safety and crumble in that kind of timeframe.

beautiful mustang! I really like the color and wheels.

Brake lines wear out just like anything else on an old vehicle. Mine are still original on my '87. The Rubber lines from the front calipers have been replaced. If those bother you at all, try stainless steel replacements. I plan on getting them myself for peace of mind....My truck and I travel 30 miles a day to work and back.

Thanks, I love the wheels but they are the opposite of what I was actually looking for, wanted 18's with machined lip and black center (again), and ended up with chrome 20's

Meh, was just super cranky last night, guess I need to get a flare tool & bender and get to work.

Also does not help that after realizing the brakes were toast, the throttle is sticking too.

I think you can buy the lines already flared with the fittings....Cheap...............the line that runs from the abs(this might be adiferent fitting and flare) to the rear is actually 2 lines there is a coupling around the fuel tank area...........................hey think of the Bright side..........you could of bought a "Coma" and died or be in a "coma" from the accident when your frame rotten out

my 84 has the stock lines and is fine. ill probably replace them with stainless ones come summer time

Most auto parts stores now carry replacement brake/steel lines that have a greenish coating that is supposed to halt or reduce the chance of it getting rusty. It's slightly more expensive then standard steel lines (local auto parts house actually cleared out ALL the old steel lines in favor of the coated lines). Might be worth looking into.
