Brake lights, turn signals not working

Hey all...

My problem started when I attempted to change out my radio head unit. Basically, I had to take off the dash facia to be able to pull the head unit.

This involved messing with the head light switch to pull the knob off, and the screw-in piece that holds the switch in place, as well as the steering shroud (the two pieces of plastic around the steering column).

Anyway, I get the shroud back together to be able to go to the store to pick up some electrical wiring nuts and butt connectors at the store. I get to an intersection to make a left turn, no turn signals. I get home, discover no brake lights. I know that separate fuses control each circuit. I have head lights, bright lights, parking lights, tail lights, and back-up lights.

Where would I start to get my brake lights and turn signals working again? I've got the dash facia off still, so getting to the wiring would not be an issue.

I would make sure that there is nothing shorted to ground on anything you did and then check the fuses to make sure they are not blown.

Sent from the garage of the never ending projects.

I'd start by looking at the "multi-function" switch on the column. It controls turn signals and headlights, and a couple other circuits pass through there as well.

Given your description of what you worked on and what the problem is, that would be my vote for the most likely culprit.

Update:

Replaced fuse #4 (was blown). No change.
Used a jumper wire, bridged brake switch connector to possibly turn on brake light circuit; no change.

Where does the power come from before the fuse panel?

I found the problem. After disconnecting the connectors to the multifunction switch, and testing each circuit, when jumpered, all circuits work.

The issue is the multifunction switch -- for some reason, the circuitry in the switch does not allow the lights and signals to function.

I have to wait until tomorrow to get a new switch, which is priced at ~ $140. Thanks for the help, guys.
